One of our lesser-known programs at KW Cares is our Emergency Grants program, which provides funds to those escaping situations of domestic violence. We know that finding a safe place to call home can be fraught with peril—and sometimes, money is what’s most needed.
We’re committed to doing whatever we can to lift members of our KW Family out of dangerous situations. No matter what, you are not alone.
One grant recipient was gracious enough to allow KW Cares to share her story. Names and locations have been changed for her protection.
“The past couple of years, I would tear up watching the KW Cares videos during Family Reunion, suffering in silence, not realizing help was available for domestic survivors.”
After she was awarded sole custody of her children, Diana Freeman’s ex-husband retaliated—violating court orders, unlawfully removing the children, and continuing an escalating pattern of intimidation and abuse. His stalking behavior made it impossible for her to host open houses or engage in any public-facing work, as it could reveal when she was away from the children.
Despite protective orders and legal measures, his actions—including threats to kill her and their children—ultimately forced them to flee Georgia in late 2024 with only what they could pack in a truck.
“I chose Faith not Fear, when I left. I am a survivor, more than a conqueror through Christ, and I am confident our lives will be better because of it.”
The family’s initial housing arrangements in the Philadelphia area fell through due to concerns about Diana’s ex-husband and his history of stalking. For three months, they lived in discounted hotels while awaiting shelter placement. Diana exhausted all her resources, but she remained committed to creating stability for her children.
“I am grateful to the KW agents and realtors in our accountability group calls that reminded me about KW Cares when I was at my lowest point. Knowledge of the DV grant gave me just enough hope to reach out for help. My life turned around that week.”
“I remember that call with KW Cares, the hotel we were in, how quickly things changed. I remember the call from the Network Against Domestic Violence that day and the visit from the crisis team that night at the hotel, a return call from a referral contact to resend my resume and then HR. Within a week of begging to spend a night at the homeless shelter to get out of the cold, I was offered and accepted a full-time position. THAT IS BOLD and ONLY GOD!”
However, the family’s immediate needs—stable housing, essential items, and transportation—remained urgent. Diana also sought support from local domestic violence organizations and continues therapy to address the trauma she and her children endured.
The next four months became defining—a true ascent marked by steep slopes and challenging terrain. Diana secured employment at a local school, found a home (through a KW agent, of course!), and is now working toward state licensure to rebuild her real estate career in Pennsylvania.
“Our life now is the evidence of what I could only imagine but never saw. Without the KW grant, I am not sure if I would have had the assurance or fortitude to continue our move so far away from home and my immediate family. When the grant was deposited into my account, it was a lifeline when I needed it most.”

A KW Cares Emergency Grant provided Diana and her children with temporary housing, clothing, school supplies, and critical support in securing permanent housing.
Rebuilding a life isn’t easy—but it is possible. And thanks to your support, we’re here to help make it happen.
“That I GET to re-envision a life by design, free from abuse, is surreal. My kids are happy. We are SAFE! We are creating a life day by day that we can be proud of. I live in gratitude… for every angel God dispatched to protect us and help us along the way. We are living proof that it is possible.”
