KW Cares

On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated the Carolinas and poured 2 inches of standing water into Jesse Davis’ finished basement. Flooding destroyed the floor, the drywall, and all of their personal property.

Her homeowner’s insurance covered exactly $0 of the damage, leaving her family with more than $37,000 of repairs to make on their own.

While they were pulling off drywall down to the studs, they found a mold issue in one of the bathrooms and under the sink, forcing them to do mold abatement.

“The spirit and ethics of KW are unmatched, with agents in my brokerage stepping up to help us with even the icky (moldy) parts of this process and really living out the KW values”

More than Just Flooding

Prior to the hurricane, Jesse’s husband, Pierce, was employed at Thomas Creek Brewery. His position was eliminated immediately after the hurricane due to “hardships and budget cuts because of the storm.” Of course, the real estate sector has been slow to recover as well, so Jesse’s income has been limited.

“Receiving our grant during a season of our lives where it not only rained and poured, but also flooded, allowed us to get back on our feet and reclaim our lives in our forever home.. When our grant was approved, I cried for an entirely different reason than I had been crying so much before.”

How You Help through KW Cares

KW Cares was able to help with home repairs and replace damaged items so Jesse and Pierce could get back to their lives in a mold-free home.
