Sometimes you hear a story and think, “This can’t be real!!” In Rileigh’s case, it is.
Rileigh Decker, 20, has been an agent with the Melbourne, FL Market Center since January 2024. She lives with her younger sisters and her mother, Natalie, who has been an agent at the same MC since July 2019. That’s two generations of KW at the same Market Center!
“Did that really happen?”
On February 7, 2025, while on a family vacation in the Bahamas, Rileigh was the victim of a tragic attack right out of a movie. While returning to her boat, she was bitten on her right leg by a large bull shark. The situation was horrifying.
She was immediately flown to Nassau on an air ambulance/medflight for emergency treatment. Rileigh’s injury was so severe that further transport on a private plane was needed to Florida the next day.
Rileigh shared the bite photo with us, but beware, it’s not for the squeamish.
The Aftermath
Thus far, she has undergone 3 surgeries to address the extensive damage. She had initial surgery on her right leg as soon as she arrived in Florida, followed by a second procedure on February 10. On February 11, Rileigh was transported via ambulance to ORMC, and on February 12, underwent a third surgery.
The surgical findings include: a severed Achilles, two broken bones, a severed artery, and significant muscle loss. She will need 4 to 6 months of intensive physical therapy.
“These (physical therapy) sessions are essential for her strength, mobility, and mental well-being, but they also come with mounting costs that our family is working hard to manage.” -Natalie Decker
