KW Cares

Hannah Nuckolls has been an agent in the Rancho Cucamonga Market Center since May 2021. Her husband, John, is a general contractor with his own business. Together, they have three daughters: two at home (ages 12 and 17) and one away at college.

The past 18 months have been very hard for Hannah and her family.

In December 2023, Hannah began experiencing sudden and alarming vision loss in her left eye. It was terrifying to wake up one day and barely be able to see out of one eye. After multiple consultations and tests, she was diagnosed with optic neuropathy, which has made reading and completing daily tasks (like tending her bee hives) difficult. She has tried a variety of traditional glasses and other aids, which have proven ineffective.

Life Gets Even Harder

Just three months later, Hannah received another devastating diagnosis—ulcerative colitis. Over the past year, her condition has worsened from mild to severe, leaving her debilitated and completely unable to function normally.

“In the face of these challenges, the most significant impact on my life has been the profound toll on my overall quality of life. We are doing our best… but it has certainly been a strain on our family both emotionally and financially.”

In January 2025, she was hospitalized for nine days, followed by another six-day hospitalization in February 2025. That same month, she began a new biological IV treatment aimed at slowing the progression of the disease and potentially preventing future surgeries.

However, her doctors have warned that it may be several months until they know if the treatment is effective. Due to the severity of her condition, she is currently unable to work or be active in her daughters’ lives in the way she wants to be. And she can no longer assist her husband with his construction business, where she previously handled administrative tasks.

“This double impact on our family income has placed us in a difficult financial position. We are now three months behind on our mortgage and other bills, adding to the stress and strain on our family dynamics.”
