How to Apply for a Grant

Step 1:   Needs Assessment:   Does it meet the criteria for a KW Cares grant?

Contact your Team Leader for a confidential needs assessment to determine whether the request meets the criteria for a KW Cares grant.

Criteria for a Keller Williams Realty Cares Grant

  • Addresses a need of the Keller Williams family, including agents and staff, due to a hardship as a result of emergencies and unforeseen and/or unpredictable circumstances over which the potential recipient had no control and are not of a recurring nature.
  • Supports a need too large for one Market Center to undertake alone.
  • One-time grant except as special circumstances may dictate.
  • Does not endeavor to resolve situations more appropriately funded by government agencies or other institutions.
  • Consistent with value system of Keller Williams Realty.

Step 2:   Regional Director Approval

If the request meets the above criteria, a completed grant application should be forwarded to the Regional Director.   All grant applications must have the endorsement of the Regional Director, who must certify the significance of the need addressed by the project.   This includes the social value, feasibility and reasonability of the request.

Step 3:   Submitting an Application

Each application must be accompanied by a letter from either the Team Leader or the grant applicant. This letter does not have to be long-- in fact, the shorter the better. However, it must include the following points:

  • The associate's situation (physical, financial)
  • What has been done by the MC and others to assist him or her
  • How much do they need, for what specifically, and when do they need it? (This is the total need, not what you're asking from KW Cares)
  • Amount requested from KW Cares
  • What the MC will do to continue to support the associate after the grant

OPTIONAL:

  • If you want KW Cares to match (and or surpass) what has already been raised locally, this should be stated in the letter.
  • If you want to arrange for "directed donations" so that donors can support the associate by making contributions directly to him or her, you need to request this. This is something that can continue for up to one year after the grant is issued, and it can be extended upon written request.

Once the Regional Director validates the request and signs the Grant Application, it should be forwarded to KW Cares at (435) 514-2229 for review by the Keller Williams Realty Cares Board of Directors during their next scheduled monthly call.

If exceptional needs exist for the request to be expedited, this will be done at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Step 4:   Regional Follow-up

If a grant is made, the Team Leader must follow up with KW Cares and provide an updated status, possibly including photographs, newspaper clippings, etc. so the story can be documented in the Keller Williams Realty Cares scrapbook.
